lol...gtg..RL homework to do...yech!!!

This page is for links to more general chemistry sites. The sites particularly relevent to the work in Units 1 to 4 can be found on the appropriate unit page.

Website of the Chemical Education Association (CEA)

CHEMystery A whole range of topics treated here.

Chemistry CentralAnother comprehensive site.

Chem 101 Videos Some very short videos of chemistry demonstrations, including flame tests and a titration.

The Macrogalleria This is a very comprehensive site on polymers. Level 1 shows polymers in everyday items. Level 2 shows the structure of polymers with some 3d models you can flip about. Polythene, polypropene and polystyrene are among the many here. Level 3 shows crosslinking, thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers.

HMChem Movies, simulations, drills on a few topics. Try out the Limiting Reagent simulation if you are unclear about substances in excess. The Spectroscopy lab is a good simulation, even though it takes a while to load and I had trouble measuring the unknown.

Webelements A very comprehensive Periodic Table with everything you ever would want to know about each element. Just click on the element and you're away! This link is to the education version of this site. The professional version has more info again.

Webmolecules -A fascinating site for viewing the structure of a large range of organic molecules. You will need to download a 3d viewer(on-site) to use this. Beyond the scope of our work but worth a look. Particularly in the areas of food chemistry, medicinal products, etc.

WWW Chemistry Site- has some tutorials and 3d models of organic compounds (in Section 3) and animated diagrams of bonding types (Section 2).

Downloads

I have downloaded lots of chemistry programs. A few will not load properly, a few will load but not be very interesting, one or two will be interesting but too hard to operate, and some will be great little programs. I will only specify the ones that I think are useful. If you DO find one that you think is helpful and it's not listed here, please leave a message about it(and its url) on the message board. Thanks

Chime Where you can download the Chime plug-in to view 3d molecular models.

ACD labs- ChemSketch Where you can download the chemsketch program for drawing and viewing in 2d or 3d carbon-based molecules. It's free although you need to register before download. Here are a couple of screen shots.

ChemSketch window3D Viewer window

Model Chem lab Here you can download the Virtual Chem lab trial program. Demo programs include a gravimetric analysis, an acid-base titration with indicators or pH meters, among others

Tim Allen's Chemistry Page No, not that Tim Allen. It has links to many small educational programs to play onsite or download. Of the programs listed here, Bond-it is quite good. A simple click and drag tool for building organic molecules, includes an alkane building drill. I have to say I like ChemSketch better(see above) but this is less complicated. (For Yr11 and Yr 10 Carbon Chemistry).
Also includes a periodic table prog you can download. Not a patch on webelements but I guess you can't download that!
A Stoich program, too, but it doesn't do anything for me. I mean I don't really like it. The naming of compounds program called Symname is good for some practice with correct formulae and names.

Looks like nobody's home. Let's set up camp.

I will keep this section for an amusing website found during surfing. This month's selection is a...
Karaoke site!!!! What delight when I discovered this one at 2 in the morning. A great time to do an Aretha Franklin impression! R...E..S..P..E...C..T....
